But as he takes the elevator down, with a gun tucked in his pants, it stops on each floor and a ghost from Will's past enters, all victims of gun violence, but will that be enough to change his mind ? I understand the meaningfulness of the actions that occurred, but it's still just a personal preference. From Nobel Laureates Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter to theatre greats Tom Stoppard and Alan Bennett to rising stars Polly Stenham and Florian Zeller, Faber Drama presents the very best theatre has to offer.

I can picture the faces in my head of the former students I wish were still in my classroom so I could put this book right into their hands. Furthermore, as we travel down with Will, he contemplates his journey, both this one, and those taken by Shawn and others, just like him, obeying the rules. Not saying that I don't appreciate it, I certainly do, but personally, I'm not able to enjoy it to the full extent I should.

It gave readers plenty of room to think and reflect on the novel as a whole, while still managing to remain a satisfying conclusion. For readers who perhaps don’t find reading that fascinating or find it difficult discover books that reflect their surroundings, because there is so little of it. In the novel Long Way Down, by Jason Reynolds, Will, the main character, has been taught to live by the rules: don't cry, don't snitch, and take revenge. This is perfection, everything is extremely well done from the narrative to the page design, after reading this you will definitely see some changes in your point of view when it comes to the discussions brought up by the author.

He says he was torn apart by Mark's death, and reluctantly followed rule three and went after the killer, killing the man he was sure killed Mark. I think the reason I didn't completely love this has a lot to do with the fact that it was written in verse. As Will listens to his mother's sobs at home, he opens the middle drawer of Shawn's dresser, previously forbidden territory, and finds a gun. Toxic Masculinity and Vulnerability - Will lives in a society that expects men to be tough, to stifle their feelings and emotions. The story is as gripping and moving as ever, its atmosphere perhaps even more poignant courtesy of Danica Novgorodoff's impactful watercolour illustrations. The elevator stops at the second floor, the last stop before the lobby, where this nightmare elevator ride can end. Bethany is a certified Special Education and Elementary teacher with 11 years experience teaching Special Education from grades PK through 5. At the next floor, a young woman enters the elevator, glances at Buck, and comments on the cigarette smoke. Jason Reynolds is a New York Times bestselling author, a Newbery Award Honoree, a Printz Award Honoree, National Book Award Honoree, a Kirkus Award winner, a two time Walter Dean Myers Award winner, an NAACP Image Award Winner, and the recipient of multiple Coretta Scott King honors.

Jason Reynolds is an author I discovered last year and I have yet to pick up a book by him I haven't loved. You can easily read it in an afternoon, yet it will haunt you for a long time afterwards, as it has haunted me.

Par exemple si je prenais mon commentaire et que je le détachais en vers, ça donnerait pareil et ça n'a pas toujours grand intérêt.

As with all the novel-in-verse books I’ve read so far, they’re so deeply moving, heartbreaking, gritty and raw, and this masterpiece was all the above and more. Reynolds was named the American Booksellers Association’s 2017 and 2018 spokesperson for Indies First, and served as the national spokesperson for the 2018 celebration of School Library Month in April 2018, sponsored by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL).There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. When his older brother Shawn is shot dead in front of him, Will is overcome with grief, despair and fury. This was a powerful lecture with some certain messages about life choices, presented in an exceptional way. Next onto the elevator is the man Will has been waiting for since he was three years old: Mikey Holloman, Will's father. Street violence is common in their neighborhood, and many deaths are a result of "rules" which drive kill or be killed motives.
