Description

The JC clean channel, The Boss pedal crunch, and saturation are some of the most noteworthy effects implemented. Its size and weight make it a very easy amp to take around; the only main con is the materials used on it. You definitely don’t need the app if it doesn’t appeal. The Roland Micro Cube is perfectly capable of standing up and making the grade on its own merits, but there’s no doubt that Cube Jam adds a new dimension.

The MICRO CUBE RX can run on battery or AC power (AC adaptor included). COSM Amps & Digital EffectsThe MICRO CUBE RX’s line input lets you plug in a guitar, bass, or microphone. In addition, the stereo AUX input accepts input from an iPod®, a CD player, or musical instrument so you can blend its signal with your own. Amplifier Section Rated Power Output 2.5 W + 2.5 W Nominal Input Level (1 kHz) INPUT: -10 dBu If you see a busker using an wedge-shaped amp, and you hear a great sound, they are most probably either using this amp or the discontinued Crate Limo. The Roland CUBE Street Ex is not as good tonally as a Fishman Loudbox Artist (see below), but for the price and portability you really can’t go wrong. It is light enough to carry comfortably, it’s easy to use and the wedge shape helps with projecting your sound – a sound that is both clean and natural. There are many good micro guitar amps around but the model that rose to the top of our ‘best mini guitar amp review’ was the Roland Micro Cube GX – one of the bestselling mini amps of all time. We believe, quite simply, it’s the best amp in its class, and it’s plenty loud enough for some serious practice despite its modest vital statistics.

With a fresh set of batteries or rechargeable batteries, mobile use without a power outlet is possible for about 20-25 hours. The Micro Cube is worn on a mini-guitar strap, which clamps to strap pins on the side. Rechargeable Ni-MH battery (AA, HR6) x 6 Current Draw 155 mA Expected battery life under continuous use Alkaline battery: Approximately 20 hours The next generation of the Micro CUBE, a classic amp, and at the time it came into the marketplace there really wasn’t much competition in the busking amp category. In recent years it has also been improved to compete with other models, but unfortunately falls short.

The runner-up in our aforementioned review, is from the same stable – the Boss Katana Mini. Whilst we can heartily recommend this mini amp, comparing it to the Roland Micro Cube GX isn’t really fair. The Katana is much smaller and certainly not as feature rich. Not in the same league but a great little amp. We’ve already noted you get the AC adaptor and the i-Cube link cable thrown in. Oh and there’s a chromatic tuner on the top panel.

No prizes for guessing that this is a simulation of the legendary Roland Jazz Chorus amp. Ultra clean and fat. Adding a helping of chorus and reverb really brings this to life. Nice. Designed as a recording amp, the Yamaha THR5A is not at all limited to just one environment. The effects are of a high quality and very user-friendly. The tone sweep control is very subtle.

Features: Clean, accurate sounds. Two channels (Mic/Line and Guitar), MP3/ Auxiliary input, built-in digital FX include chorus, delay, hall and plate, external FX loop, headphone output. With the Micro Cube GX, you get a wide range of effects to play with – seven to be precise. You may still want to use your own external boards and pedals – and that’s fine – but if you’re on a budget there’s plenty here to keep you out of trouble. The Roland Micro CUBE GX is a great practice amp, but if used for busking, you will always be thinking about upgrading. It is indeed versatile, in that it offers many amp models and effects, but none would really be at home in a professional setting. After two weeks or fairly intensive use in Turkey, my first set of batteries was still going strong, but as I sold it with the batteries still inside, I can’t say when they finally gave out!

But you can also use this output to plug directly into your audio interface and Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) allowing you to access the Cube GX’s great tones in a recording application. With two specially made power amps and four speakers, the RX amp produces an immersive, stereo sound that must be heard to be believed. The true stereo engine also allows bass tones that defy the size of the cabinet. Battery DriveThe volume output is impressive and even slightly louder than its predecessor. Thus, the power (especially with the distorted models) is not only enough for the living room but also for smaller gigs without drums. In combination with the sturdy MDF housing, the custom-designed speaker does the rest to make the manageable amount of watts look as fulminant as possible. I had this amp for five years, and it is the one I have made the most out of. Previously I had a cheap Harley Benton (CG1O X Street) that sounded tinny, and after it suddenly broke, I decided to get this Roland Cube. Answer: As a solo guitarist, or singer-songwriter playing on the streets, having to amplify your guitar, have enough effects, and have your voice plugged in separately, I suggest the Street Cube EX would be the best suited for that purpose. Five total inputs, 50W, and the 6″ woofers will allow giving mind-blowing performances possible, however big the crowd may get. Summary Complete with a built in tuner, the battery powered Cube GX is the perfect buskers amp and as we ourselves have proved with extensive testing the Roland Micro Cube is a durable little beast and won't break easily!
